Daikin Applied Latin America (DALA), a subsidiary of Daikin Applied Americas part of Daikin Industries, Ltd., is the largest HVAC manufacturer globally.
Headquartered in Osaka, Japan, Daikin Industries is an innovative indoor air company with more than 100 global production sites and customers in more than 150 countries.
We are convinced cloud was the right first move as part of our ongoing innovation strategy and digital transformation, which led to creating a great customer experience and enables us to be ‘ready for anything.’

IT Manager
Challenge
After forming an alliance with CYVSA headquartered in Mexico, DALA looked to consolidate their IT landscape which was in multiple data centers across two continents. Data was challenging to access, difficult to retrieve, and nearly impossible to analyze. Facing a data center contract nearing end of term and looking to get out of a ‘black box’ environment, Daikin sought a modernization partner with both SAP and Azure Cloud SMEs who could deliver new levels of cost savings, efficiency, as well as unlock value from their data with business intelligence expertise with highly responsive and resolutive problem solving and incident handling.
Solution
Daikin selected Protera, the Preferred Migration Partner for SAP on Azure in North America, for the deployment and ongoing cloud and application managed services of their global ERP systems, including SAP ECC, SAP S/4HANA, and Oracle. The migration timeline was set to just eight weeks challenging both the Daikin & Protera Infrastructure Teams.
Results
The accelerated deployment in 2021 was a success and included the integration and right-sizing of environments, immediate cost savings of $80,000, and full visibility into systems running on Azure. “We can now request data points across the entire cloud platform, from SAP applications and databases to overall performance. This enables us to track KPIs, return information to the business, and establish cadence of reporting analytics and keeping servers up time outstanding,” says Javier Sanabria, IT Manager, Daikin Applied Latin America.
In 2022, Daikin again selected Protera to migrate their SAP S/4HANA environment from HEC to Microsoft Azure. “Our first migration was part of a larger transformation,” says Sanabria. “Running on Azure allowed us the preparation and stability to move our S/4HANA systems, resulting in faster and deeper analytics with private network integration.”
The future
Daikin continues to leverage best practices with Protera and Microsoft to optimize storage, kick off business intelligence projects, and consolidate and integrate licenses managed by their parent company.
With their mission critical systems fully managed by Protera on Azure, Daikin’s IT team can focus up the stack on innovative projects, such as putting the control of HVAC systems in the hands of their clients. Using IoT and monitoring technologies, Daikin clients have begun measuring KPIs, and can control all hardware from a handheld device or tablet.
